In-state tuition and fees rose 3 percent for 2017-18 at Towson University, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

Maryland residents paid $9,694 to attend the four-year public institution this year $286 more than the $9,408 charged for 2016-17.

Non-residents paid 128.4 percent more than residents this year, or $22,140. Their price tag grew 5 percent from $21,076 in 2016-17.

About 77 percent of the school’s undergraduate population are Maryland residents. About 22 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 80 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,526 students received grants or scholarships totaling $11.95 million and 1,519 students took out student loans totaling more than $10.79 million.

Including all undergraduates, 9,241 students used grants or scholarships totaling $73.55 million. Another 9,121 took out $59.9 million in federal student loans.
