Irvine Nature Center Board of Trustees issued the following announcement.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Part-time teaching assistant supports trainers and early childhood teachers in under-served communities during a professional development series, Nature & Nurture. Through this outreach, the teacher and assistant model best practices in early childhood environmental education and equips teachers to facilitate nature-based activities at their preschools or child care centers.
The Teaching Assistant provides day-of aide to the Nature & Nurture teachers during on-site classroom visits and reports to the Director of Early Childhood Education.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and implement nature-based learning professional development for teachers.
Assist teachers in completing site-based needs assessments to best personalize teacher and students’ learning experience.
Create and implement safe site-specific lesson plans for indoor and outdoor experiential, play-based environmental learning for students to model pedagogy outlined in the professional development series.
Communicate with your supervisor, teachers, and center leaders about program needs and concerns.
Document and evaluate the program with photographs, reflection forms and narrative anecdotes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with children 0-5yrs, especially in alternative or outdoor settings.
Experience in environmental education.
Experience working with under-served populations in a classroom setting.
Excellent oral communication skills.
Have access to personal reliable transportation.
Bachelor’s degree in education, early childhood education or outdoor education (desired but not required).
Current First Aid and CPR training or Wilderness Survival First Aid and CPR (desired but not required).
Salary: $14 an hour
