Coleman Records Double-Double as Mustangs Fourth Quarter Comeback not Enough against TCNJ

Stevenson University issued the following announcement on Dec. 21

The Stevenson women's basketball team fell, 61-50 as their final fourth-quarter push wasn't enough to defeat The College of New Jersey. 

First Quarter

  • The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) started off the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic with a 6-1 lead over the Mustangs following a three-pointer. 
  • Stevenson responded at the 8:15 minute mark, after Olivia Coleman sunk a jump shot to cut the Lions lead. 
  • TCNJ went on an 11-point run with 58 seconds left in the quarter the Lions led, 20-3 as Stevenson couldn't gain momentum. 
  • Coleman closed out the quarter by grabbing her own rebound for a layup as Stevenson trailed 22-5
Second Quarter

  • Denia Campbell got things started in the second quarter with a layup at 8:31. 
  • Midway through the quarter, Coleman brought the Mustangs within 18 as she sank two free throws. 
  • At the 2:57 minute mark, Ellie Boswell picked up a steal and then went ahead for a layup, to make the score 35-18. 
  • Stevenson kept fighting to cut the Lion's lead as they came within 14 at the end of the second after a Maleah Smith layup. 
Third Quarter

  • The scoring didn't open up for either team until just over a minute when TCNJ made three. 
  • TCNJ added ten more points in the next three minutes to extend their lead, 51-26. 
  • Seconds after Coleman re-enters the game, she puts up two for Stevenson. 
  • With 1:37 left, Emori Jeselskis goes up for a layup and then is fouled and proceeds to make the free throw to trail, 54-31. 
  • The Lions finished up the third with a three to lead by 26. 
Fourth Quarter

  • With an assist from Coleman, Morgan Pennick made a jumper at 8:34. 
  • The Mustangs kept things rolling as they went on a 12-0 as Jeselskis made a three to come within 14 of TCNJ. 
  • At the 1:41 minute mark, Jeselskis added another layup as Stevenson trailed, 61-48. 
  • With less than a minute remaining, Coleman picked up two free throws following a TCNJ foul.  
Numbers and Notes 

  • Stevenson falls to 3-6 overall while The College of New Jersey advances to 6-5 overall. 
  • Coleman recorded her first double-double of the season as she put up 13 points and 10 rebounds. 
  • Jeselskis totaled 11 points from the bench and Campbell added ten points of her own. 
  • The Mustangs shot 40.4% from the floor which is their best percentage so far this season. 
  • TCNJ forced 14 Mustang turnovers which are their fewest this season. 
  • TCNJ outrebounded Stevenson 34-27. 
What's Next

  • Stevenson will either face Scranton or Dickinson tomorrow in the final day of the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic. Time is to be determined.
