(Timonium, MD) – Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger last May 1, 2023 issued the following statement after Senator Ben Cardin announced he will not seek reelection in 2024.
“I expect Senator Cardin to represent his constituents as relentlessly over the next two years as he has over the last 56 – so it’s not time to say “congratulations” just yet.
That said, I can think of few elected officials who have served with as much decency and integrity as Senator Ben Cardin. He has a brilliant political mind but also a gift for explaining nuanced policy in a way that everyone can understand.
From his early days in Annapolis – including as one of the youngest Maryland House Speakers – to the U.S. Congress, we have Ben to thank for so many victories for the Chesapeake Bay, small businesses, veterans, accessible healthcare and, especially, the most vulnerable among us. On behalf of Maryland’s Second District, I thank Senator Cardin for his impeccable representation and I look forward to serving alongside him as he finishes his final term.”
