ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Wes Moore on June 14, proclaimed June 14, 2023, as Flag Day in Maryland. The proclamation encourages all Marylanders to observe Flag Day as a symbol of hope and inspiration to people at home and around the world.

“The American flag speaks to the sacrifices that our predecessors made to ensure that this country fulfills the promise of those values,” said Gov. Moore. “Our flag also represents patriotism. I know what patriotism is. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. From police officers, firefighters, teachers, the engineers and the custodians-whoever is working every day to make other people’s lives better: those are patriots. Flag Day is an opportunity for every Marylander to reflect on what the United States of America means to them and to celebrate the history that we all share.”

The American flag is a recognized symbol of hope and inspiration across the world. The celebration of Flag Day is about history, patriotism, respect, and community participation and is a day to promote pride in a land that many brave men and women have defended and paid the ultimate sacrifice.

In advance of Flag Day, Governor Moore this week proclaimed Maryland Women Veterans Day, marking the 75th anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act and celebrating the commitment to service by Maryland’s 62,000 women veterans.

Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony Woods presented the proclamation during the Women Veterans Entrepreneurship Resource Lunch & Learn program hosted by the Governor’s Office of Small, Minority & Women Business Affairs at Bowie State University.
