BALTIMORE, MD. - On June 13, Mayor Brandon M. Scott, Chief Administrative Officer Faith Leach, and Councilman James Torrence joined the Department of Transportation (DOT), the Department of Public Works (DPW), and the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to applaud their work during the #BuildBetterBMore Spring City Service Sprints.
When the initiative launched on April 13, 2023, Mayor Scott set an intensive goal to fill 9,000 potholes, remove 900 graffiti markings, and repave 9 lane miles in 90 days - as well as, for DHCD to redouble their efforts to combat and address illegal dumping complaints.
As of June 12, 2023, each department has far surpassed their stated goals, with:
- DOT filling 19,831 potholes
- DOT repaving 10.1 lane miles
- DPW removing 1,142 graffiti markings
"Mayor Scott's Spring Blitz is an opportunity to demonstrate that Baltimore City can rise to the occasion and surpass even our greatest expectations. At the DOT, we are incredibly proud of our maintenance crews who pounded the pavement - repaving a total of 10.14 lane miles of the roadway and filling 19,831 potholes across every area of the city in only 60 days," said DOT Interim Director Corren Johnson. "We applaud the individuals who submitted a 311 request and the leaders and agencies engaged in the Spring Blitz for the expeditious work being done on behalf of Baltimore City's residents."
"We know that graffiti can scar our City. The City's graffiti removal services help keep city-owned and private residential properties clean. DPW encourages Baltimore residents to make a commitment to clean their neighborhoods and to report locations for graffiti removal by DPW crews," said DPW Director Jason W. Mitchell. "Since the launch of the Mayor's Spring Sprints, DPW's graffiti crew has removed 1,142 markings throughout the City, surpassing the Mayor's initial graffiti removal goal."
Residents can help city officials #BuildBetterBMore by submitting their service requests through 311.
