ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore on June 27 delivered the keynote address during the annual Maryland Municipal League summer conference in Ocean City. The governor presented his remarks to close out the Moore-Miller administration’s first participation at the conference, reinforcing the importance of local connections and working in partnership to leave no Marylander behind.

“Our local leaders and elected officials are the ones who hold the keys to Maryland’s greatness – the ones closest to the problems our communities face and get things done without excuses,” said Gov. Moore. “Our administration came to the Maryland Municipal League Conference to show that we will be a state that works together. We will rededicate ourselves to the power of partnership and recognize that we can do incredible things, if only we marshal the courage to do it together. That’s the lesson we all learn from this conference, and that's my vision for what we will accomplish together moving forward.”

Over two days, Lt. Governor Aruna Miller and more than 25 members of the Moore-Miller administration’s cabinet and agency leaders joined the governor at the conference to greet municipal leaders from across the state, participate in policy discussions, tour the exhibit hall, and visit the Ocean City boardwalk.

This morning, Governor Moore also presented the “Top Cop” honor to Corporal Michael Schlaerth from the Sykesville Police Department in Carroll County. Corporal Schlaerth is a field training officer and is known as a community service champion. The ceremony included representatives from Maryland’s municipal police forces.

Over the course of the conference, Governor Moore also attended the Maryland Black Mayors reception, the Prince George’s County Municipal Association Breakfast, the Maryland Mayors Association meeting, the Maryland Municipal League Strategic Partner appreciation meeting and the Maryland Municipal League Past Presidents Luncheon.
