BALTIMORE, MD – In response to June 30 United States Supreme Court’s 6- 3 ruling in favor of a wedding web designer’s refusal to provide services to gay couples on First Amendment grounds, Attorney General Anthony G. Brown issued the following the statement:

“In yet another attack on the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, the Court’s ruling today has made this protected class even more vulnerable to discrimination. Depriving LGBTQIA+ people access to the same goods and services in our public marketplace as those available to others is inconsistent with our country’s guarantee of equal rights for all. The Court’s ruling today perpetrates discrimination against a protected class whose members should be able to plan their weddings, celebrate their families, and live their lives free from the devastating impacts of hate and bigotry. As we stand up our new Civil Rights Division, we will work to protect and promote the rights of our LGBTQIA+ community here in Maryland.” https://www.marylandattorneygeneral.gov/press/2023/063023b.pdf
