BALTIMORE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS: So many books and so much time!

Books

Baltimore County Public Schools issued the following announcement on June 18.

Summer break has just begun for students in Baltimore County Public Schools, and that means lots of days ahead to be spent having fun with friends and family – and reading and learning.

But what to read? There are so many choices!

Once again – for the third year in a row, Fran Glick, BCPS coordinator of library media programs and digital resources, comes to the rescue offering weekly reading suggestions for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Her Glick’s Picks will be posted on the BCPS website and updated every Monday.

“Summer is the perfect time for students to experience how far reading can take them,” said BCPS Superintendent Verletta White. “The books that Fran Glick recommends will introduce readers to new experiences, spark their imaginations, and remind them of our shared humanity.”

Under Glick’s leadership, BCPS was named National School Library Program of the Year 2017 by the American Association of School Librarians. Library Journal named Glick one of its 50 Movers & Shakers for 2018, and she received one of three 2018 Women in School Leadership Awards from AASA, The School Superintendents Association.

Glick, a Pikesville resident, has been a BCPS educator for nearly three decades, having served as an elementary classroom teacher, elementary and high school library media specialist, and central office professional. In her current role, she supervises and leads work in school libraries and the effective use of technology in teaching and learning.

Her educational background includes a master’s degree in instructional technology from Towson University, a certificate in administration and supervision from Langston University, and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Loyola University Maryland. Long active in the national school library community, she has served on the Standards and Indicators Taskforce and the Standards in Action Taskforce for the American Association of School Librarians. She is a thought partner in the Future Ready Librarians leadership team. As an adjunct professor at Towson University, she teaches courses in children's and young adult literature.
