Cost of college went up for all students at Towson University

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.5 percent for 2018-19 at Towson University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Maryland residents paid $9,940 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $246 more than the $9,694 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 133.5 percent more than residents this year, or $23,208. Their price tag grew 4.8 percent from $22,140 in 2017-18.

About 81 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Maryland residents. About 18 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 81 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,526 students received grants or scholarships totaling $13.1 million and 1,589 students took out student loans totaling more than $11.6 million.

Including all undergraduates (22,923), 9,876 students used grants or scholarships totaling $87.9 million, and 9,733 students took out $62.9 million in federal student loans.
