Archbishop Curley High School issued the following announcement on Jun 01.
Andrew "Jake" Rusnak, last at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, where the National Kidney Foundation of MD and DE, had their first in-person event in two years, Keith Mills hosting, along with one of Maryland’s finest boxers, Demond Nicholson, received the Youth Ambassador Award for raising $10,000 in 3 benefit swims. Jake’s last swim was a 10k, 446 non-stop laps, where he raised more than $5,000.
He received a huge ovation from the hundreds of folks who attended, a beautiful plaque, and his most treasured award-autographed boxing gloves from Demond Nicholson! Native Maryland boxer, and super middleweight champion, Demond Nicholson, the night before a big fight that was supposed to air on Showtime, suffered renal failure and had to undergo immediate dialysis. He also lost his kidney. His father (and trainer) wanted him to retire, but Demond said it was his dream and he couldn't quit.
